François has been involved in numerous national and international transactions, including a large number of private equity deals and venture capital investments. In addition to strategic acquisitions and buyouts, he advises various Dutch investment funds about their investment and exit strategies. He is also often involved in such transactions as a lawyer of the sellers. By combining this experience with his knowledge and expertise in the field of insolvency and restructuring, François is also able to give expert legal advice about the various aspects of distressed M&A transactions. In the Chambers leading lawyers for business in Europe François is named as a key individual in the field of Corporate/M&A. Chambers states in this respect: "Francois Koppenol is 'creative in finding solutions that work for everybody,' say clients." In the Legal500 François will be recommended for private equity and venture capital. In 2009, François completed (cum laude) the post-academic study programme 'Mergers and Acquisitions' and in 2012 he completed the Insolad (the Dutch Association of Insolvency Practitioners) study programme 'Insolvency Law', both at the Grotius Academy. He studied law at Leiden University. Furthermore, François is a member of the editorial board of the Dutch journal 'Tijdschrift voor de bedrijfsopvolging', which focuses on the practical side of tax and legal issues related to the transfer of (family) businesses. He is also co-author of the insolvency-law publication 'SDU Commentaar Insolventierecht'. He regularly holds courses on the subject of M&A and other subjects relating to corporate law and restructuring.
