Louis has practiced law since 2003 and joined AKD Amsterdam’s construction and real estate law section on 1 December 2011. Prior to this he first worked for Lovells and subsequently for Houthoff Buruma.
Louis has extensive experience in private law pertaining to construction and real estate law and serves customers both within the B&U as well as the GWW sectors. His focus is on consultancy work in cases of (impending) construction disputes and procedures relevant for construction companies and commissioning authorities, including government. In this capacity he has been involved with Dutch construction industry fraud related arbitration and complex disputes involving structural defects related to thermal storage installations.
Louis is also active in the area of purchase and sales disputes of commercial real estate and complex guarantee claims between developers and real estate investors involved in purchase and project development agreements. He has extensive experience in litigation at the Dutch Construction Arbitration Council, the Netherlands Arbitration Institute (NAI), and in Dutch courts. In addition to the abovementioned tasks, Louis also drafts construction agreements and consultancy agreements. He also advises parties in these contracts, often applying UAV-GC 2005 (Uniform Administrative Conditions for Integrated Forms of Contracts) and DNR 2005 (new rules governing the legal relationship between client, architect, engineer and consultant). Louis also has a solid knowledge of corporate law and commercial law. His work in these areas of law includes advising parties in disputes between partners in construction and project development combinations on the one hand and industrial manufacturers and suppliers on the other.
Louis is a member of the Construction Law Association (VBR) and the Association of Construction Law Lawyers (VBR-A) and publishes in his area of expertise.
