Bruno van Ravels (1958) is a partner at AKD and has been a lawyer since 1986. He has held a professorship within the Business and Law Research Centre at Radboud University Nijmegen, since 2002, where he occupies the chair on ‘Government and Business’. He is a specialist in Dutch administrative law as well as on the intersection between administrative and private law. His main focus is on the legal field of government liability.
Bruno is engaged in senior roles in a variety of public and educational bodies. He chairs the decision-making commission (Besliscommissie Schadeschap Luchthaven Schiphol) which is handling the large number of compensation claims resulting from the expansion of Schiphol international airport. He is also a member of the national advisory commission on legal provisions for water management (Commissie van Advies inzake de Waterstaatswetgeving) and of an expert group set up by the Dutch Minister of Justice to look into legal arrangements for damage claims and compensation.
Bruno is also part of the day-to-day management team of the Dutch legal Centre for Postdoctoral Education (CPO) and he acts as senior lecturer on a variety of training courses. Among these are the professional course for municipal jurists, organised by the CPO Nijmegen, the Dutch Training and Study Centre for the Judiciary (SSR) and the Grotius Academy.
With regard to legal publications, Bruno is editor and author of the loose-leaf editions of ‘Bestuursrechtelijke schadevergoeding’, covering compensation under administrative law, ‘Modellen voor de rechtspraktijk’, which deals with practice at the Bar, and ‘Praktijkboek bestuursrecht ‘, concerning administrative law practices. He also edits the periodical ‘Overheid en aansprakelijkheid’ (government and liability) and is a member of the editorial council of the ‘Tijdschrift voor Bouwrecht’, the legal periodical on construction law. In addition, Bruno is a chronicler for the ‘Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Bestuursrecht’, the Dutch periodical for administrative law, and he plays a role as an annotator for publications covering jurisprudence in the areas of business and construction.
Bruno’s inaugural speech 'Grenzen van voorzienbaarheid' (boundaries of foreseeability) appeared in 2005 in book form.
