Joost Houdijk (1975) is a member of the European and Competition Law practice group and works in Brussels. He previously worked as a lecturer and researcher in the International & European Law department of the University of Nijmegen (the Netherlands). After completing his studies of Dutch law and International and European law in Nijmegen and Poitiers (France), Joost also completed a traineeship at the European Commission (Directorate-General for Competition).

Joost also has a large number of publications to his name. In 2009 he successfully defended his doctoral thesis, titled 'Publieke belangen in het mededingingsrecht: een onderzoek in vijf domeinen' ('Public interests in competition law: a study in five domains').

Joost is involved in advising and litigating on cartel agreements and abuse of a dominant position, procurement law and state aid. He represents companies and public authorities in proceedings before the European Commission, the Netherlands Competition Authority, the Dutch courts and the Court of Justice of the EU. He also handles questions of general European law and EU law on freedom of movement. Finally, together with other members of the European and Competition Law practice group, he regularly assists companies in notifications of mergers and acquisitions to the European Commission and the Netherlands Competition Authority (NMa).
