Martin Hemmer graduated in law from Radboud University Nijmegen in 2002, having pursued part of his course at Montpellier 1 University, in France. His studies focused on Intellectual Property rights. Martin graduated in databank law and worked during the final phase of his studies in the trademark department of Akzo Nobel.
Martin joined AKD as a lawyer in 2003. As a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology practice group, he handles a variety of legal cases concerning breaches of intellectual property rights affecting trade marks, copyright and patents. He has also pursued cases in the field of media law, relating particularly to unlawful publication. In addition, Martin advises and litigates on behalf of clients on matters involving advertising law and ICT conflicts. Another aspect of his work is drawing up agreements covering the use of intellectual property and new technology development, such as licencing contracts and R&D agreements between businesses or groups of companies. Martin leads courses and regularly lectures on the subject of intellectual property.
Martin is a member of several professional organisations including the BMM (the Benelux association for trade mark and design law), the AIPPI/VIE (the international association for intellectual property protection/association for intellectual property), the ECTA (European Communities Trademark Association) and the VvRr (the society for advertising law). AKD Prinsen Van Wijmen is a member of European Counterfeiting Protection (ECP), Marques and INTA.
The practice group IP&T was chosen as Herbalife’s supplier for legal services in The Netherlands. Martin Hemmer of AKD’s IP group acts as their account manager.
