Egbert de Groot started his career as a lawyer in 1992. He specialises in litigating and providing advice at the interface of public and private law, construction law (under public law), (especially in the field of construction and area development) and contracts with the government. He advises and assists government agencies, market parties and care institutions about or during: spatial planning, expropriation, the Municipalities (Preferential Rights) Act, public private cooperation (ppc), government contracts and contracts with the government. In addition to his advisory work Egbert regularly litigates in the above areas.

Egbert specialises in the preparation of area development contracts for, among other things, housing construction sites, business sites, greenhouse farming sites, housing agency zones and the development of care institutions and in the forms of cooperation associated with the foregoing, such as joint operating companies, concession agreements, agreements concluded prior to the adoption of zoning plans and the like. In addition, Egbert has extensive experience in conducting complex proceedings for the acquisition of land. As a lawyer specialised in compulsory purchases, he handled a significant number of the compulsory purchases for HSL-Zuid, a high-speed railway line, in the area between Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Egbert regularly publishes in his areas of specialisation. The publications are available at the website of AKD. Egbert also teaches on a regular basis. Alongside his job as a lawyer Egbert is member of the board (secretary) of the association of expropriation lawyers, deputy counsel to the court in Leeuwarden and lecturer at the Amsterdam School of Real Estate. Egbert is also branch chairman at the AKD Office in Breda.
