Prof. Mr. Annelies Freriks (1967) is a lawyer/companion with AKD Breda from where she leads the firm’s Life Sciences & Agro Food section. She is also active as a lawyer in the field of environmental law covering areas including the environment, nature protection and water resources.
As professor of animal law, she is attached to the Institute of Constitutional and Administrative Law in the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance (REBO) at Utrecht University where she focuses on legal questions concerning animal health, animal welfare and nature protection. Annelies is a member of the agrarian law society (Vereniging voor Agrarisch Recht) and chairs the board of the European Institute for Food Law.
In addition, she is a member of the editorial staff of the agrarian law journal, the flora and fauna journal and the environmental liability periodical (TMA) and of the commission on environmental impact assessment.
