François Defaix (1959) is a practice group leader with responsibility for the employment law practice groups within the various offices of AKD. His practice involves both collective and individual employment law and conducting legal proceedings in these fields.

He specialises in collective dismissals, reorganisations - including the drafting of social plans and negotiations with trade unions - international labour law, due diligence investigations and takeovers (including related pension issues), and transfers of business. He also frequently acts as counsel to the board, for the Managing Boards, Boards of Directors and Supervisory Boards of companies (including listed companies) in the appointment, suspension and removal from office of directors.

François also has a great deal of experience in all aspects involved in the introduction of collective employment agreements and workers participation in relation to the law governing works councils. He is a frequent adviser to the management and boards of large companies concerning advice and consultation requests and the role of the works council during mergers and takeovers.

He is a member of a number of professional associations and a board member of both the Rotterdam employment lawyers society (Vereniging Rotterdamse Arbeidsrecht Advocaten (VRAA)) and the franchise association of companies involved with the Dutch HEMA retail chain.
François frequently gives lectures and writes on employment law-related topics.
