Richard Avezaat is part of AKD's Construction and Real Estate Law practice group. In this practice group, he is involved in civil construction law and specific aspects such as project financing, guarantees, and insolvency and corporate law issues as they pertain to construction and real estate. This expertise is especially valuable in complex real estate transactions, PPP contracts, design, construction, financing, maintenance and operation projects (DBFMO), project development, inner-city redevelopment and conducting negotiations related to drafting contracts in these areas.

Richard is a lecturer both within the practice as well as for external parties. He publishes regularly in professional journals, including the Tijdschrift voor Bouwrecht (Construction Law Journal). He also co-authored the SDU Commentaar Insolventierecht (Comments on Insolvency Law) and wrote De Kwaliteitsrekening (The Clients' Account') in the Studiepockets Privaatrecht (Study books Private Law) series. Richard is member of various internal and external sector organisations, including AKD Real Estate, the Construction Law Association and the Society of Construction Law Lawyers. Due to his combined expertise in the fields of construction and real estate as well as insolvency law, Richard is well-placed to advise in situations where contractors, sub-contractors, project developers and other parties in the construction and real estate sector experience financial difficulties or financing problems. Richard continuously enhances his insolvency law expertise through his appointments as a receiver in bankruptcy cases and as an administrator in moratorium cases.

Richard successfully completed the INSOLAD/Grotius programme in Insolvency Law in 2005, and is a member of the INSOLAD Specialist Association. In 2010, Richard completed the INSOLAD Specialisation Programme in Financial Economics for Receivers.

Richard is chairman of the Construction and Real Estate section in Rotterdam.
