Government

AKD is one of the biggest legal service providers in the public sector. Our clients include municipalities, provinces and the central government, as well as water boards and semi-public institutions.

We not only advise municipalities on municipal law, but also on politically sensitive issues such as alcohol and drugs policy. And we act as regular lawyers to various municipal and provincial authorities, including the Province of Gelderland and the Municipality of Breda.

Government liability
Government liability is one of AKD's major specialisations. In this connection, our experts are involved in practically all large-scale infrastructure projects such as the High-Speed Rail Line (HSL), the expansion of Schiphol Airport, the North-South underground line in Amsterdam, and the Betuwe all-freight railway line.

Environmental issues
Moreover, our practice often deals with environmental issues such as noise pollution and soil contamination. For example, we handle all environmental permits for the Dutch rail infrastructure manager ProRail, and we also give advice on compulsory purchase, liability and new legislation.

Road infrastructure
Road infrastructure is another field in which AKD has considerable expertise. For example, we act as advisors to the Province of Limburg and the Municipality of Maastricht (among others) with respect to development of the area surrounding the A2 motorway. This includes the building of a tunnel, road construction, and the development of property for private and commercial purposes.

And we also specialise in …
AKD's other major specialisations include tendering, state aid and contracts with government authorities, and we frequently advise our clients on matters relating to regional zoning policy, the Municipalities (Preferential Rights) Act, and planning and zoning laws.
