Financial services

The world of finance is subject to tremendous changes. Supervision is on the increase, legislation and regulations are changing, and financing is becoming more and more complex. All this creates a challenging situation for entrepreneurs engaged in the provision of financial services.

A wide practice in the financial sector
AKD has a wide practice in the financial sector and works with and for banks, credit institutions and insurance companies in a large variety of areas. We are exceedingly active in the field of financing (initial financing as well as refinancing), and our corporate law specialists have extensive experience in cooperating with big international banks and private equity parties in this field. We also play an extremely active role in this sector with respect to employment law: our clients include RBS Royal Bank of Scotland and Fortis Investments Nederland.

Investment vehicles and Financial Markets Authority procedures
We give legal advice to investment institutions with respect to investment vehicles such as 'umbrella funds', private equity and venture capital funds, property funds, hedge funds and feeder funds. We also supervise approval procedures at the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets.

Insurance
AKD is primarily known to insurance companies for our expertise in the field of supervisory law. Most of our work in this area consists of litigation in insurance matters and providing advice on policy and supervisory law. In addition, AKD has built up an excellent reputation regarding our advice on the recent amendments to Dutch insurance law. We act on behalf of large-scale international players in this segment - such as AIG and Chubb - on matters relating to directors' and officers' liability.
