Corporate social responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become an integral part of today’s business community. AKD has also implemented a sustainable business practice that concentrates on three priority areas: Society, Effect on our Environment, and Integrity and Corporate Culture.

We also aim to integrate CSR into our core business to a greater extent.

Society
Since AKD's special expertise can be of great value to social objectives, we have placed part of our pro bono expertise at the disposal of certain charities such as KidsRights and the Aids Fonds. We also sponsor a number of organisations, including Rotterdam Topsport and the Dutch Heart Foundation.

Effect on our environment
At AKD, we always consider the environment when performing our duties. The main aspects of our environmental policy are:

  • Reduction of CO2 emissions: we've introduced a no-claims bonus scheme relating to the energy performance of our car fleet, as well as the NS Business Card.
  • Our suppliers must comply with the Minimum Requirements for Sustainable Purchasing, and our ambition is to ensure that 100% of our purchases are sustainable.
  • Sustainable accommodation: De Maastoren, our new business premises in Rotterdam, is a good example of this. This is an exceptionally sustainable building for a number of reasons, such as the combination of hot-cold storage using Maas Water Tower cooling.
  • Reducing our paper consumption: AKD's aim is to reduce paper consumption by 35%.

Integrity and corporate culture
We set ourselves high standards regarding corporate culture and integrity, such as an AKD code of conduct for all our staff. We also devote targeted attention to our diversity policy, such as signing the national 'Talent to the Top' charter, whose aim is to increase the number of women in top management positions.

Integration into our core business
Besides all our efforts in the above priority areas, we also aim to integrate CSR further into our legal services. AKD envisages numerous possibilities in fields such as transport, environment, construction and property, European legislation and corporate governance.
